Seattle Percussive Dance Festival 2027

ABOUT

Project Convergence is proud to host the first ever Seattle Percussive Dance Festival! We welcome artists of all percussive dance forms, and audiences who love them, to join us February 19th and 20th 2027 at Broadway Performance Hall. The festival will be a weekend of collaboration and rhythmic conversation, and will provide opportunities for local artists to develop and showcase their work. The festival includes:

  • A residency program for selected artists

  • Two showcases featuring work from Project Convergence and artists in residence

  • A cross cultural jam session open to artists in residence and members of the public

RESIDENCY

We are searching for both emerging and established Washington-based artists who are looking to create new professional work for the stage. Artists should be excited to create, and committed to learning the fundamental business tools necessary for a career in the performing arts. Artists who are chosen will receive mentorship from our company’s directors, Vikas Arun and Apoorva Natarajan, regarding show development, choreography, budgeting, marketing, and much more (full list provided below). They will also have the opportunity to showcase their work for Seattle audiences on the Broadway Performance Hall stage. We welcome and encourage artists/companies of all percussive dance forms to apply for the SPDF Residency 2027.

  • EMERGING ARTISTS

    • 5-10 min performance slot at SPDF, showcasing new work created through the residency.

    • 15-30 min tech slot at Broadway Performance Hall

    • 4 hours of mentorship time with Project Convergence directors covering topics such as:

      1. Vision boarding

      2. Financial Literacy for Dancers

      3. Lighting

      4. Costuming

      5. Introduction to the grant ecosystem

    • Minimum $200 honorarium

    • Option to apply for a free pass to the 2026 Arts NW Booking Conference to learn how touring shows get booked

  • ESTABLISHED ARTISTS

    • 15 - 20 min performance at SPDF - showcasing new work created through the residency

    • 45 - 60 min tech slot at Broadway Performance Hall

    • 4 hours of mentorship with Project Convergence directors, covering topics such as:

      • Fundraising 101

      • Intro to the touring dance ecosystem

      • Company-level vision boarding: understanding your audience and what you want to build, pitching/marketing, etc.

    • Minimum $750 honorarium

    • Free pass to ArtsNW conference (Boise, ID). Learn how shows get booked, and other essential touring artist skills. Shadow Project Convergence as they pitch and book touring shows!

  • August 15th, 2026 - Application Deadline

    October 19th - 22nd 2026 - Arts NW Booking Conference in Boise, ID. **Strongly recommended for established artists. Free admission for established artists.

    November 21, 2026 - Recording of work in progress deadline. 50% of the agreed upon length.

    January 16th, 2027 - Full recording of work in progress deadline

    February 19th, 2027 - Artists in Residency tech and show

    February 20th, 2027 - Project Convergence show

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

If you are an artist looking to apply, please read through the following guidelines to determine whether you are an emerging artist, or an established artist. The application will ask you to select one based on these guidelines, or, if you are unsure, you can contact us or choose to apply for both and let the panel decide.

    • Has presented works 10+ minutes in length three times or less in the past three years

    • Less than 50% of work created was for a professional stage (i.e. an event other than a school recital, school concert, or competition)

    • Performs less than 10 times a year (including participation in the work of other dance artists)

    • Has presented works 10+ minutes in length more than three times in the past three years

    • More than 50% of work created was for a professional stage (i.e. an event other than a school recital, school concert, or competition)

    • Performs 10-15 times a year or more (including participation in the work of other dance artists)


Applications are due 8/15 at 11:59:59PM PST.

Final selections will be made by a panel of percussive dance choreographers. Artists selected for the residency will be contacted via email by the end of August 2026.
